Redsn0w 0.9.6beta5 For iOS 4.2.1 Released To Unlock iPhone 3GS & iPhone 3G [Updated]
After releasing PwnageTool for Mac earlier iPhone Dev Team has released Redsn0w to allow users to flash their iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G with iPad’s exploitable 06.15.00 baseband so that they can use Ultrasn0w 1.2 to unlock their iPhone.
Redsn0w 0.9.6beta5 is available for both Windows and Mac users.

Well what can i do with my 3G if i do not need to update my baseband because it's already unlockable in 4.1? If i update to 4.2.1 through iTunes or Redsnow it will update my baseband to not unlockable and i will need to use this method from iPad.Why Redsnow can't built custom firmware preserving old baseband if user do not need it or in other words without baseband. Now i will need to wait snowbreeze which is not quiet good like dev team tools because of lack hactivation, youtube problems, strange kernel hack / compilation (idroid do not work with it after update). And so on...Thanks!

WRONG - please edit this post, because this is not all true. From iphone Dev Team: "This PwnageTool also contains a 4.2.1 bundle for iPhone3G owners…for all else, it’s still only 4.1"In other words - there is no unlock for Iphone 3GS owners who want to run 4.2.1 firmware!

redsn0w will work with both 3g and 3gs. it takes but a moment to read the full information available, everyone do themselves a favor, READ IT! this will eliminate stupidity hopefully. what am i saying, there will be plenty of stupid posts...

Wow.. just unlocked my Iphone BB 05.14.02.I updated to new ipsw created through pwange unlcok version - updated through ultrasn0w.. hey presto ..Now on BB 06.15.00 - unlocked & jailbroken Iphone 3g 4.1

Cause iOS 4.2.1 has Baseband checks and will give you an error if updated to iOS 4.2.1 with older Baseband

Do I need iPhone activator sim after iPad baseband file installed by Redsn0w....means I don't have such a sim to activate it...so can some plzzzzzzz tell me... is that sim required!! I m on 3GS-5.14.02 with 4.0 ios and using windows......pleaseeeeeee help meeeeeeee.....

Bad!!I have jailbroken my iPhone with GreenPois0n followed this guide "Jailbreak iPhone 4 iOS 4.1 with GreenPois0n on Mac" located in iFunia iPhone column, but seems I can't use UltrasnOw to unlock iPhone as installing Greenpoison might bar UltrasnOw from ever operating! :(Hmm, but I want to update to IOS 4.2.1, and do this unlocking, what should I to do? Guys, please help. Thanks in advance!!!

This is all too soon and too confusing!I'll still wait... Maybe someone will come up with something better. It's confusing... just think of the future guys. If you upgrade your BB to 06.15, there’s no going back.This is a trap and Apple might decide to exploit it and lock everybody that upgraded out in future.I'll stay safe for now!!!

Worked like a charm. My cousin unknowingly updated to iOS 4.1 and couldn't use his 3GS (new bootrom) since Sep (unlocker should never update, once again..) Got iOS 4.1 and modem firmware 05.14.02. So I downloaded the official 4.1 ipsw, ran the program, pointed to that ipsw in the first step, checked install ipad baseband, and in 5 mins or so, done. Opened Cydia and installed Ultrasnow 1.2 and ALL DONE!!! T-mobile sim in and worked perfectly. So now, the 3GS has iOS 4.1 and modem firmware 06.15.00, and UNLOCKED!!! He needs to buy me a dinner tomorrow!!!

Ohh... damn Apple! :/So it's only way to use 4.2.1 with unlock, update to iPad baseband.

WOW stop being noob guys. DEV team is awesome!!! Step 1: Updated your phone on itunes with 4.2.1-It has always been a trend after release of new ultrasnow, you have a couple of days to updated with itunes until new update comes out.Step 2: Download the latest redsnow Step 3. Run redsnow, make sure you find your 4.2.1 ipsw, and check ipad flashStep 4. Run cydia and Install ultrasnowStep 5: You are done

if yo are using a Iphone 3gs with firmware 5.14.02 and you upgrade with redsn0w and you get stuck in a Restore mode like I was and you cant have access to 4.2 just downgrade if you have backed up your .shsh files on Cydia back to 4.1 ,the cool thing is even though you cant access 4.2 because of being stuck in the Restore mode loop once you downgrade to 4.1 the Firmware changes! from the 5.14.02 to the new one that can be unlocked! just use Limerain after Downgrading,use Cydia to download the new Ultrasn0w and you are good to go!

Justin, did you need to upgrade itunes to 10.1 to do that? If I have 3g 4.1 BB 5.14.02 do I need to upgrade my Itunes from 10 to 10.1?Thanks
