I am having the same exact problem w/ 3gs it will not go into DFU mode I can get my 3g into DFU mode but NOT my 3gs and I don't want to pay someone to do something that I know how to do...

u have to download the apple 4.2 ispw, google it as there are plenty of sites with it where u can download. than put the file into ur c: drive and select that file in red snow

OK OK Jail-broken Iphone 4 4.1 was unable to restore attempted 5 times in the recovery mode did the jailbreak anyhow now jail-broken with the 4.2 all is well

Installed over redsnow and works perfectly. All my itunes and cydia apps are kept which I didn't expect.

most likely, and definitely yes. there are no real advantages of jailbraking right now as this is not an unlock (fortunately in my country all phones are factory unlocked) also this wifi hotspot ppl are talking about is said to come in the next ios which should be released soon.
