I had absolutely no problem getting my iPhone 3GS unlocked. There was no argument or hesitation. The AT&T agent only asked if I wanted to go to another carrier. I don’t but I still wanted to unlock it. No further comments from the agent. I asked for and I gave my IMEI number and he said Apple would contact me. They did not but 2 weeks later the new jailbreak came out. As I restored my phone I got a message in iTunes “Congratulation, Your iPhone has been unlocked". Other than that I don't know how to verify that it is unlocked.
